The First Step to Overcoming C-Section Anxiety

First of all, don’t be afraid to speak up. If you’ve never had a C-section before or have had a negative previous experience, it’s completely normal to feel anxious. Whether your C-section is planned or you are worried about an emergency situation, this is a major medical procedure, and having fears is perfectly natural.

Many factors can trigger C-section anxiety, but the most common fear is the fear of the unknown. This fear can manifest in several ways

1. Fear of Surgery and Anesthesia
– What will the surgery be like?
– How will anesthesia affect me?
– Am I putting myself or my baby at risk?
– What if something goes wrong?

2. Fear of Complications
– What are the potential complications?
– How will this affect my health long-term?
– Will my baby develop normally?

3. Fear of Pain and Recovery
– How will I manage the pain afterward?
– How long will recovery take?
– Will I be able to care for my baby properly during recovery?

4. Loss of Control
– What if I feel helpless during the procedure?
– How can I make sure I have a say in the process?
– What if things don’t go as planned?

5.  Fear of the Birth Not Being “Normal”
– Am I missing out on a natural birth experience?
–  Am I more at risk for postpartum depression?

6. Fear of Bonding and Baby Health
– Will this affect my ability to bond with my baby?
– How will the C-section impact my baby’s health?

It’s important to address these fears beforehand. The biggest difference in your birth experience won’t be biological but in how you perceive it. Do you want to view your birth through a positive or negative lens?

Let’s work together to transform your fears into birth confidence and calmness. By facing these anxieties head-on, you can create a beautiful birth experience instead of a fearful one.

Even if your fear is as severe as worrying about dying during the process, we can help you overcome it and create a metnal state of calm.

My Personal Birth Story
(Emergency C-Section)

Hi! I’m Sibi and my first birth ended in an emergency c-section, and it left me traumatized. It wasn’t life-threatening, but I had no idea what to expect, and it was too much to process when it happened. In between and afterward, I didn’t know how to deal with it, so I put it aside until months later. I found myself in a state of numbness. I was functioning and taking care of my baby, but I was constantly stressed out, stiff, and emotionally numb.

Before it turned out to be an emergency, I was calm. I had done some guided meditation to prepare for the fear of giving birth in general, and I was so calm and okay with the pain that I even giggled in between because it was much better than anticipated.

Here is what I did not do beforehand:

  • Inform myself and prepare for different scenarios.
  • Work on my birthing self-confidence and communicate with the team about what I wanted, how I felt, and insist on it.

Instead, just before the head was about to come out, the nurse asked me to lie down (when I really didn’t want to) so she could leave the room. I did it, and about one minute later, I was in the worst pain ever as the baby had turned, leading to the c-section. The problem was that I became the victim of circumstances rather than the one in charge.

Medical staff are there to serve us, not the other way around. Birth is a miracle that deserves the utmost respect and support in a loving way.

Months later, I processed everything with the help of an alternative therapist specializing in birth trauma. I released all the pent-up emotions and blocks and was able to feel again, relax, and move on in life. I reframed the birth experience into something positive that I could learn from.

And here we are today. I want to help you not only do the same but do it right from the very start.

Mental Preparation for Your C-Section

The best thing you can do is prepare yourself mentally. This involves developing an inner calm, knowing what to expect, understanding what to ask, and learning how to prepare for the actual date. It’s also essential to know your sources of support and how to get exactly what you need for a positive birth experience.

Whether you have a planned C-section or fear an emergency C-section, I can help you work through it with the assistance of a professional C-section anxiety specialist (one of our Allies – Alternative Therapists).

Here’s what we’ll do:

Address Your C-Section and Birth Anxiety

We will explore your C-section anxiety to understand where it originates. By identifying the subconscious beliefs that led you to feel this way, we can work on dissolving them and finding counter-strategies that lead you to a calm and relaxed state.

Cultivate Birth Confidence and Inner Calm

We will work on your birth confidence, enabling you to deal with anything and come out the other end in the best possible way. You are in control, even if it doesn’t seem like it at the moment.

Support Postnatal Healing and Baby Bonding

We’ll discuss what you can do for baby bonding, improving natural pain relief hormones, and knowing that you are capable of being the best mother you can be.

You will receive and learn tools to stay relaxed and calm during the entire experience. You can also get 1:1 support on the actual day via headphones so we can connect with you.
